The local people are friendly and welcoming and the pace of life is relaxed and enjoyable. Traffic jams are unheard of and the crime rate is low compared to other places in Europe. The climate is pleasant all year round with gentle breezes to offset the heat of the sun in the summer and minimal rainfall in winter, where the temperature rarely falls below 12 degrees centigrade even during the night.
 

The population today, is around 130,000, the largest community being native Canarian residents,  English & German communities are the next two largest groups of residents along with other nationals from all over the EU, Latin America, North Africa and Morocco. 

One of the reasons why so much of the island remains unspoiled is the influence of the Lanzarote born artist, César Manrique. He and his contemporaries devoted their energies to ensuring that Lanzarote did not become overdeveloped. He spearheaded the movement to promote sustainable growth, allowing the island to retain its unique character whilst catering for the tourist trade, which is the lifeblood of the island's economy.

 Many of the tradition skills developed within ancestral family lines, still exist on the Islands, with grandfathers and grandmothers passing there knowledge and skills on to the younger generation. This lifestyle is slowly beginning to change, with the growth in tourism and in world technologies, many of the younger generation are moving into other modern day markets both here on the Islands and indeed, moving to mainland Spain.

However, there is even today, still a large proportion of the native canarian families who choose to live as a close family network, reminiscent of days long lost in other,  countries within the EU.

The educational system on the Islands is as good as anywhere within the EU, in fact, probably better with class sizes being smaller and teachers often knowing  pupils & their parents from outside of the educational system.

The local government offices provide, for very small fees and quite often for free, excellent activities for the children throughout the long summer holidays.,
